Questions: 1) I'm on a gay jobs database? 2) What is a gay jobs database? 3) Are the people in the database gay or the jobs? 4) What is a gay job? 5) What's the pay like?
For the first time since Bill Clinton was running do I feel like there is someone running for President that I can feel proud of and inspired by. I feel like I am listening to a speaker of insight and credibility when I hear Barrack Obama speak. I feel like this is what it was like to hear President Kennedy speak when he talked about the space program or giving of yourself for your country.
That said, as a 40 year old Virginian who has spent most of those years inside the beltway, there are a couple of comments I'd like to have considered. First, although saying "Washington is the problem" may resonate in other parts of the country, it alienates a lot of the people a future president will count on for support. Despite what many think, there are many civil servants, consultants and, yes, ordinary people whose paycheck does not depend on the federal government, that live within this strip of pavement. We are not a monolith, a collection of lobbyists or a block of votes. In fact, many of us do not even have the same opportunities of political representation as the rest of the country.
I heard a commercial tonight in which you maligned the federal budget. I understand how pet projects can spoil good work and intentions. But I find it off-putting to speak ill of the process as if it were a conspired rather than cumulative effort. For you to understand why this bothers me you will need to know a little about my background. My father worked as the senior civil economist at the Treasury Department for over 20 years (Nixon-Ford-Carter-Reagan-Bush). Although he has his own opinions about policy and government, this was not part of his job. Putting together the president's budget meant that my family went without seeing him at dinner and during the weekends for a month or two out of the year. My father is one of the many Washingtonians that, despite knowing that this is an imperfect system, works diligently to improve it and provide value to the country by their efforts.
People outside of the “system” seem to think that Washington empties out every time there is a change in administration. People who live here know that many in the political positions never really leave town completely. And then there are the rest of us: not lobbyists, not entrenched bureaucrats, and not part of the problem of Washington. As someone who has made a hobby of redefining labels, please be careful not to label us with one broad brush stroke.
This guy totally took my idea for a tv show. I actually LOLed when he answers a call by asking, "Hey, Joanna. Do you like to paint or exercise or make blended drinks?" and I don't LOL a lot.
Just when I thought it could not get better, I've now learned that John Kilduff is selling a portrait of The Hoff, painted whilst upon his treadmill.
I keep reading that Mr. Nelson Reilly (CNR to those of us in the know) was a gay pioneer and I wonder about the validity of that statement. He never hid his sexuality but then again he didn't officially come out until about 2000. Nothing against the man, I enjoyed his work on Match Game'75.
Plus, I expect pioneers to have names like Jebediah and Ezekiel.
